Memorial Day Ceremony - Carrington, ND - 2023

 

For those of you who live locally, don't forget to attend Carrington's Memorial Day Ceremony & Luncheon next Monday, May 29th, at Trinity Lutheran Church. 

 The American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries have arranged the program and are providing lunch for the entire community.   The community Memorial Day program and luncheon will be at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. 

The auxiliaries were happy to see that many community folks came out to Carrington Cemetery to help them place flags on veterans' graves.  Every year they can depend on the thoughtful help of the community to make the cemetery look especially beautiful. 

Attached is a picture of the Veterans' Memorial where our ceremonies were held in the past.  The memorial was placed in the cemetery in 1949 in honor of all military individuals who have given their lives for our country.

Fruit Baskets for Veterans - Carrington, ND 2022

 The American Legion and VFW Auxiliary ladies got together this week to make and deliver fruit baskets to our local veterans and their wives who are in nursing/assisted living homes in Carrington and New Rockford. 

They gathered at Marlene Boyer's home to create the baskets... and as you can see, it was a warm, Christmassy, comfortable place to work and think about the sacrifices and service that these men and women had given to our country. 

 Several of these veterans had served during the Korean War in the early 50's in a snow-covered terrain much like the scene you can see through Marlene's windows.

  

Many of the men on both sides of the war died at that time due to the type of weather that we've experienced recently in North Dakota.  

As the Auxiliary ladies stomped through the snow in a minus-22-degree temperature to deliver the fruit baskets, they thought about the extreme conditions and hardships that many of our veterans experienced... away from home, family and friends they loved. 

The ladies hoped that their fruit baskets would express their love, gratitude and admiration for them... and let them know that they are still remembered with appreciation for their service to our precious America.
